Source Extractor (Bertin & Arnouts 1995) is a useful and fast piece of software to catalog the sources in an astronomical image. When I started my thesis, it was poorly documented and widely used. I combined my notes and all the lore I came across into “Source Extractor for Dummies”. A new and updated version was made available end of 2005. SE is still being developed as well as its use in astronomy (well mainly astronomy). Hopefully the manual will grow with it.
